The World Has Fallen?

Many people might be familiar with that title of this article especially for the Hollywood movie fans. The title is similar with one of the blockbuster movie where the story is about to defend and save the president from the attack but we are not going to talk about that movie. So, let’s leave that movie and we move to the real case in this world that we are facing now.

At the end of 2019, People are shocked by videos that shared online on social media, there were videos showed that people suddenly falling down on the street in Wuhan, China. Shocking footage showed people in China falling down while medical personnel walk around wearing hazmat suits (Reid, 2020). People started scared and wonder what outbreak is that which is like a zombie in Hollywood movie. Subsequently, on 31 December 2019, China reported unexplained low respiratory infections to the WHO Country Office in China; those first cases were classified as “pneumonia of unknown etiology”. Then, on 11 February 2020, the WHO Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced that the disease caused by “COVID-19,” which is the acronym of “coronavirus disease 2019”. This new virus is very contagious and has quickly spread globally. In a meeting on January 30, 2020, the International Health Regulations (IHR, 2005), the outbreak was declared by the WHO a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) as it had spread to 18 countries with four countries reporting human-to-human transmission (Cascela, Rajnik, Cuomo, Dulebohn & Napoli, 2020).

Coronavirus has been growing fast around the world, there are 12.750.275 confirmed cases and 566.355 deaths globally on 13 July 2020. America is the biggest amount confirmed cases followed by Europe, eastern Mediterranean, South-east Asia, Africa and Western Pacific. Sunday, 2 March 2020, the president of Indonesia, Joko Widodo announced 2 people have been confirmed as the first Covid-19 cases in Indonesia. The data showed that 76.981 have been confirmed as Covid-19, 36.689 were recovered and 3.656 were death on 13 July 2020.

WHO stated that Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) is an infectious disease caused a newly discovered coronavirus. Dr Shoumia Swaminathan, WHO Chief Scientist stated that the science is constantly changing and the publications about the Covid-19 are up to 1000 publications which the average is about 500 new publications a day making a huge amount of the data that’s being put out. Not all of those researches are good quality, therefore they make a living systematic review to get good data and correct information.

In the early month of these cases emerged, the biggest health of organization in the world “WHO” declared that the Covid-19 virus spreads through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person cough or sneezes and they announced the possibility of aerosol transmission on July 2020. This possibility occurs in health care settings where specific medical procedures generate very small droplets –aerosols. Some outbreaks reports related to crowded indoor spaces have suggested the possibility of aerosol combined with droplet transmission such as during choir practice, in restaurant and gym. This new information made various comment from the society, some people stated that they don’t believe in WHO anymore and some are grateful that they have been informed continuously from WHO. “We don’t believe you, stop this fake stuff please, stop just stop we all know this virus is made” wrote one of the social media user. These various comment are understandable considering that the Covid-19 affecting so many aspect in the world such as Health, education, economic and society. People start afraid of everything, companies fired their worker due to the company’s revenue dropped dramatically; many people are unemployed and start having psychology problem. People are tired and stress out dealing with these coronavirus effect.

The world tries to figure out how to deal with this outbreak, every government start making some policies to control the coronavirus spreading to their whole country. Lockdown in every stage is considered to be good policy and people start working from home.  Many countries are trying to make vaccine for Covid-19. The US National Institutes of Health begins trial of an “investigational” vaccine on 45 healthy adults, aged 18 to 55, after promising results in animal models. The trial is funded by the US National Institutes of Health and Massachusetts-based biotechnology company, Moderna Inc, and it is set to last six weeks. The vaccine is officially named mRNA-1273 (Dellana, 2020).

The latest news about this coronavirus Vaccine development is come from French. On 12 July 2020, They said the probability of having a 100% “effective” vaccine against the coronavirus in 2021 is low, says epidemiologist Arnaud Fontanet, urging the French to “return to more serious habits” in the face of the epidemic risk. “A vaccine is several years of development, there is of course an unprecedented effort to develop this vaccine but I would be very surprised if we had in 2021 a vaccine which is effective,” Fontanet says. “We will probably have a vaccine that will work partially,” he added, insisting that “the end of the epidemic” is still far away (Dellana, 2020).

Those trials and finding about the vaccine has not been confirmed yet to be effective in killing the coronavirus totally. The research and the clinical trials are continuing until now. The society still pray for this outbreak will be over immediately and the world back to the new normal life.
